Joshua’s First Cloth Diaper

Looking back on the last two years of cloth diapering Josh, I started thinking about all of our cloth diapers. We have bought so many, got rid of some, changed things around, etc… I sat here and I tried to remember what diaper was Josh’s very first cloth diaper. Which one was on his little bottom first?

It is hard for me because we bought several brands of diapers to try with him. Plus, 2 years is a really long time too! I remember my first purchase including Fuzzi Bunz Cloth Diapers. I think back and remember how well they fit on Josh, especially when he was smaller.

Above pictures are from http://www.fuzzibunz.com/

Fuzzi Bunz Diapers have always been a favorite of mine. I love the colors, they are super trim, we rarely get leaks and they fit Josh great! I am happy to say that after 2 years, our first Fuzzi Bunz Diaper is still going strong. It is still used in our regular rotation and still one of our favorite day time diapers.

The fact that there are no rise snaps in the front make them ideal for smaller kiddos. (In my opinion of coarse!). You don’t have to worry about a bunch of bulk in the front of the diaper that rise snaps tend to add. The colors stay bright and vibrant wash after wash.

The thing about Fuzzi Bunz Cloth Diapers that caught my eye most was the price tag! At under $20 a diaper they are affordable! Not to mention that you can usually catch them on sale too.

My favorite color is the Light it Up Blue! For me, this color is my favorite because Fuzzi Bunz donates partial proceeds of it to Autism Speaks! How great is that? You get cute fluff and you are supporting a wonderful cause!

Bottom Line, I have loved my Fuzzi Bunz Diapers from the beginning. Even through all the changes that have been made with my stash, I refuse to let go of my first Fuzzi Bunz :-)

Do you remember the first cloth diaper that you put on your little one?

Almost Wordless Wednesday: Miracle in Cleveland

Today, my Wordless Wednesday post is not about my family. It is to celebrate a true miracle that happened locally to me. By now I am sure everyone has seen that 3 woman, who have been missing for about 10 years were found on Monday ALIVE!

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were found alive after being held captive for 10 years. Amanda found the opportunity to seek help to free herself, her daughter and help free the other two woman.

We all know, these stories don’t usually end this way. I am thankful these woman are home and are being reunited with their families. As a mother, I can not imagine the pain that these woman and their families have endured all these years.

Welcome home Amanda, Gina and Michelle!

My Favorite Budget Friendly Cloth Diapers

I started cloth diapering Joshua when he was around a month old. It was never something I thought I would do. To be honest, I had no idea what modern cloth diapers were. The cloth I knew was prefolds, pins and plastic pants. When Joshua was born, we quickly learned that he was allergic to all brands of disposable diapers. His pediatrician finally suggested us switching to cloth. I left his office that day and I was a bit in shock. I never planned on cloth diapers and I am really not the plastic pants kind of person.

When I got home, I started searching cloth diapers online. I was amazed at how many options and choices there were. The diapers that showed up in my search results weren’t anything close to what I imagined. So many different brands, types, styles and prints. I was amazing to see how far they have come.

It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with cloth diapers. It was love at first sight, until I noticed the price tags! I saw diapers as cheap as $5 and as expensive as $50+! Being on a very tight budget, I bought the cheapest diapers I could find. When they arrived I was really disappointed. The quality was horrible and they didn’t work at all. Being a determined mommy, I set out to find a budget friendly diaper that worked! I wanted a diaper that was affordable, made of quality materials, that didn’t leak, had cute prints and was made in the USA. I know, I am pretty picky!

I came across Thirsties Cloth Diapers and I fell in love! They are made in the USA, they have adorable prints and they are all under $20. So I ordered a few different ones, their Duo Diaper, Duo AIO and Fab Fitted. When they arrived, I was in love with them. They are well made, are really soft and the colors are stunning in person. So I prepped them and gave them a shot. I fell in love! They worked perfectly. Thirsties diapers fit great and worked great! Two years later they are still going strong. These diapers are really made to last.

Just look at these print!!!! *Pictures from www.thirstiesbaby.com

Bottom Line: If you are in search of a budget friendly diaper that works, you should really consider Thirsties Cloth Diapers! Your wallet and your baby’s bottom will thank you later :-)

Wee Pea Originals AI2 Review: Sponsor Spotlight

By now, most of you know I am always searching for new amazing diapers. I search all over, mostly looking a new WAHM’s to support. All of my personal favorite diapers are made by moms in their homes. The attention they pay to the details, their wonderful customer service and the fact that they personally stand behind all their products, are the reasons I prefer WAHM’s.

One day I came across Wee Pea Originals while I was browsing on Etsy and I fell in love with her AI2 design. Everything about it was perfect, from the snap placement, right down to the materials she uses. I knew I had to try one. Wee Pea Originals sent me one of her OS AI2′s to review. We it got here, I was even more impressed!

Let’s take a look at the features before I start rambling.

  • Waterproof PUL outer
  • Organic Bamboo French Terry or Organic Bamboo Velour inner
  • Adjustable rise snaps
  • Hip snaps
  • Baby soft elastic, tripled stitched for durability
  • One Size (fitting most babies 8-40lbs)
  • Laundered and ready to use when you receive it.
  • Can be made with an Aplix closure that includes laundry tabs

SOAKERS

  • The soaker is a combination of 5 layers of Bamboo Heavy French Terry, Bamboo Baby Loop Terry and Organic Bamboo Velour on top.
  • The only thing that touches baby’s skin is soft Bamboo Velour.
  • Snaps in/out for easy cleaning and faster drying
  • Each diaper includes a small and medium/large soaker.

With all those wonderful fabrics, who wouldn’t want to give it a try?

This diaper gives you an amazing fit. The hip snaps are great and help to prevent wing drooping. The inner fabric is so soft and helps keep the baby’s skin dry. It is really trim and very absorbent. I love this diaper during the day and for Joshua’s naps.

We use this diaper mostly during the day with Josh. We never get any leaks and I don’t have to worry if he takes his nap before I get a chance to change him. Josh pretty much crashes and takes his naps where he lands so I don’t always get a chance to put a fresh diaper on him beforehand. I love that the diaper is mostly organic. We have yet to experience any red marks or rashes while using it either. For Josh, this diaper is perfect for holding up during his crazy days!

We used it a few times overnight and it isn’t for him. He is a super heavy wetter at night and he sleeps 12 hours straight. Most diapers don’t hold up so we weren’t surprised when we got leaks with this one. However, if your little one isn’t a heavy wetter, I do believe you will have good luck with it. It is very absorbent!

The bottom line, this is a wonderful diaper! It is soft, well made, absorbent, affordable, it works great and is available in lots of adorable prints! It is made with the best materials and will be super comfortable on your little one. You have to try one!

Wee Pea Originals also has a new design Duo which is the same diaper using complimentary PUL prints/colors with custom embroidery coordinated with the prints/colors on the back, super cute!!

Plus, she is now offering Cloth Wipes!!!

Make sure you check Wee Pea Originals out on Etsy and Hyenacart!!!

Don’t forget to contact with them on Facebook to stay up to date!

Plumber Bums OS Pocket Review: Sponsor Spotlight

One day while browsing on Facebook I came across Plumber Bums diapers! I fell in love with this adorable flames print diaper so I had to buy it. After I bought it, I contacted the mom behind Plumber Bums and she offered to sponsor a prize for my big giveaway in exchange for a review :-) How great is that?

I absolutely love supporting WAHM’s. So, I was thrilled to be able to review her diaper and offer a giveaway to all of you.

When I received the diaper, I was even more in love with it. The print is even better in person and the inside of the diaper is really soft. It was well made with wonderful materials.

  • One Size
  • PUL outer
  • Micro Chamois Fleece Inner
  • Adjustable rise snaps
  • Hip snaps
  • Includes a Zorb insert

As always, our first test run was during the day. We got a great fit! It was snug without being too tight. The diaper is super trim and the zorb insert actually absorbs more than you would think. It didn’t leave behind any red marks and we had no wing drooping. I was very pleased with how well the diaper kept up with Josh. He is your typical two year old boy and spends his days running, climbing, jumping and just getting into everything. I love that it moved with him. After about 3 hours we went to change Josh and he was dry. No leaks!

Next, we give it a shot during Josh’s nap. Once again we got a great fit! Josh of coarse had to play and tumble around before he decided to fall asleep. Like usual, Josh slept on his tummy with his little tush sticking up in the air. When he woke up, he came out and climbed up on my lap. He was dry, no leaks!

Our last test was overnight. I put Josh in the diaper and it started the long 12 hour stretch. It leaked :-( This really didn’t surprise me. Most diapers do not hold up overnight with Josh. Not only does his sleep on his tummy for 12 straight hours but he is also a super heavy wetter. The only thing that keeps him dry at night is wool. I don’t hold overnights against diapers, especially with Josh. Not all kiddos are super heavy wetters like him. What I really like about this diaper is there is plenty of room to add more inserts if needed. It may not have worked for Josh overnight, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for your little one.

Bottom Line. These diapers are cute, affordable, well made and work well. They are super easy to clean and don’t hold onto stains. They fit great and have never left any red marks behind. At under $20 this are very budget friendly and our made to last.

Head on over and check them out!

Berryplus Laundry Soap Review – Sponsor Spotlight

After having kids I noticed I pay a lot more attention to the things we use in everyday life. I want products that are free of harsh chemicals, safe for sensitive skin and things that are better for the planet. Laundry soap is a big one here. We need something that works but is also Eco friendly and safe even the most sensitive skin. If it works on Josh’s cloth diapers than that is even better!

One day I cam across Berryplus Liquid Laundry Soap. Honestly, I was completely intrigued and I knew I had to give it  a shot. The best part is, Berryplus is sponsoring my big giveaway and they are giving away 3 bottles of detergent and 3 laundry bags! (3 different winners!)

MY EXPERIENCE

I have to admit, this laundry soap has completely surprised me. I really didn’t know what to expect with it and honestly I am not a fan of soap nuts so I was a bit doubtful about this.

I tried this first on my regular laundry. The soap does have a vinegar type smell to it. I was a bit nervous using only the recommend amount because it just didn’t seem like such a small amount would work. But I followed the instructions and gave it a shot. I was so pleased with how well it worked! It got our clothes clean, made them feel soft and left them bright. The detergent didn’t leave any scents on the clothes, they just smelled clean and fresh. It got out all the things the kids left behind! From mud, to food to their finger paints Berryplus got everything out. I was thrilled!

My favorite part is that it didn’t bother any of our sensitive skin! We are a household that is filled with sensitive skin and we really have to watch what products we use because of that. No irritations here.

Next I gave it a shot on Josh’s cloth diapers. This is a big one for me. I want his diapers to come out of the wash clean, stain free, smell free, soft, bright and residue free. I know, I want it all! I washed his diapers like usual with Berryplus and I love it! The diapers came out of the wash just as I wanted them to. They where clean, soft, bright, free of stains, free of smells and there was no residue left behind. The diapers were incredible soft! They just looked, felt and smelled clean. I could not be happier with the results.

My husband loves using Berryplus on our blankets! He likes how soft it makes them :-) He interrupted me typing the review to share that!

Bottom Line. I love this laundry soap. It is affordable and works great. It does everything I expect from a detergent. I would recommend Berryplus to anyone!

The laundry bags are wonderful too! They are well made and hold a lot of stuff. Plus they work great for everything from clothes to toys!

LooHoo Wool Dryer Balls Review – Sponsor Spotlight

When I started using cloth diapers, I really thought I would miss dryer sheets. So I went on a search for a better option. I knew there had to be another option out there that was safer and free of harsh chemicals. Then I discovered wool dryer balls. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect with them. I had serious doubts about whether or not they would work and if they were worth the price.

One day, I came across LooHoo Wool Dryer Balls. I had to try them. So I contacted them and LooHoo Wool Dryer Balls agreed to sponsor a review and a giveaway! That’s right! They are one of the amazing sponsors for my big event!

loohoo__3pack_aug2012_large LooHoo-5pack-Aug2012-177x300

MY EXPERIENCE

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical of these. The last wool dryer balls I used, left our clothes with horrible static. So, I didn’t know what to expect with these.

I started using these with just our cloth diapers. They worked perfectly! The diapers dried faster, smelled better and were static free. We use mostly fitteds with Josh now and they take such a long time to dry. I was thrilled that these actually helped shorten the drying time. Without the LooHoo wool dryer balls, the diapers take 1.5 cycles in the dryer. With them, the diapers dry in less than 1 cycle!!! That is awesome :-)

Next, I went ahead and gave them a try with our regular laundry. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The LooHoo wool dryer balls worked perfectly. Our clothes dried faster, smelled fresh, were free of wrinkles and had no static. With the dryer balls our clothes dry in only 30 minutes! Without them it takes about an hour.

When it comes to the laundry here I am a bit lazy. I always put off folding for as long as I can. I love that these help with wrinkles! Even when I put off folding the clothes, they still stay wrinkle free when we use them.

As a bonus, the wool dryer balls also acts as toys lol. Yes, my children (especially Josh) steal them out of the dryer to play catch! Then they leave them hanging around the house and the cats get in on the game too. The cats have a blast knocking them around the house. Then my dad’s dog comes for a visit and thinks they are his! I usually end up having to chase him down to pry them out of his mouth :-) Yet, their actual toys go untouched. Who knew?

I strongly recommend you give LooHoo a try! They are reasonable priced and work perfectly. I know a lot of people are nervous about investing in them, not knowing for sure if they work. But these are an amazing alternative to dryer sheets and really are worth the investment. We love them.

Head on over to their website to check them out!

Bummas Wipes Review: Sponsor Spotlight

When you use cloth diapers it makes sense to use cloth wipes as well. Honestly cloth wipes are a staple in my house. We use them for everything! We have cloth wipes for bottoms, noses, washcloths, cleaning cloths and anything else you can think of. They are small, handy and convenient. I use them with wipe solution or plain water. I don’t know if I could make it through one day without them, we love them!

Needless to say, I was thrilled to get the chance the review the Bummas wipes. I was sent their Wild Ones set. It is a beautiful set and it really shows how wonderful all the colors are. The perfect set, there is one of everything!

  • 100% Cotton – Woven Velour Terry Cloth
  • Variety of bright and fun colors
  • Handy 5″ x 7″ size
  • Won’t pill, shrink or fade
  • Durable
  • Made to last!
  •  Available in 5 different color sets!

3935641_orig 4135761_orig 5109584 5558107_orig 6678120

AWESOME FACT ABOUT BUMMAS

  • They have been given the Seal of Approval from PTPA
  • They also WON the Best Wipes Eco-Excellence Award by Natural Child World

I absolutely love the colors! They are bright and they really don’t fade. The wipes are super soft. One side is very smooth and the other side is soft but with a nice texture. While their size is handy, I wish they were bigger. They are too small for my liking. They work perfect for noses and other small messes. However, with a messy diaper, I find that I need more of these than I do of bigger ones. Typically with a messy diaper, I only need one of the bigger sized wipes. With these I end up needing 2-3. But these are a lot easier when traveling as they fit better in small wipe cases than the bigger sized ones do.

They are super soft against baby’s skin and they never leave redness behind. That is a must when using them on the little one’s most sensitive areas. Josh likes using them as washcloths because they are the perfect size for him which makes them easy for him to manage. My husband likes to stash these in the car to use for messy faces when we are out and about.

What I Love about them:

  • Quality! The material is wonderful and oh so soft!
  • They are durable! Well made
  • Beautiful Colors that don’t fade
  • The textured side!
  • The price tag!

What I don’t like:

  • The size. If only they were bigger.

So, there you have it. I love everything about the Bummas wipes except their size. Now really size is a personal preference and I just prefer bigger wipes. They are affordable, durable, pretty and work great.

A must have accessory for any cloth diapering mom!!!

Make sure you keep an eye out for my big Giveaway Event that is coming soon! You will have a chance to win a set of Bummas Wipes of your choice.

Cow Patties Cloth Diapers AI2 Review: Sponsor Spotlight

Recently, I came across a wonderful WAHM on Facebook. She just happened to post an awesome sale that I could not pass up. So, I purchased 2 AI2 diapers from her :-) There was a delay in getting one of my diapers out, she was waiting on the material for it. So she made the sweetest gesture. She sent me my finished diaper and ANOTHER diaper to make up for the wait. Oh, since the wonderful post office took their time shipping them, I received all 3 diapers the same day! I was thrilled!!!

Since I received an extra diaper, I offered to do a review on here for her. Then she offered to sponsor my big event that is coming soon!!! How awesome is that?

About the Cow Patties Cloth Diaper AI2:

  • One Size (Although she does offer sized diapers)
  • Snap Closure (She also offers Velcro)
  • Snap in snake style insert
  • Fleece inner
  • Adorable prints for outers

Cow Patties Cloth Diapers also offers many other thing like Pockets, Fitteds, Covers, Trainers and Mama Cloth! My favorite part is everything is extremely affordable!!! She honestly has some of the best prices I have seen. Completely budget friendly!

MY EXPERIENCE

When the diapers arrived I fell in love. I adore the prints! I receive some really cool Double Bubble and Tootsie Pop prints. Hubby picked them out so he was just as excited.

I love the insert. It is really long, so we were able to fold in half and then fold the front up again! That gave us 4 layers of the insert in the front where Josh needed them most. The diapers are really trim and fit great. We never had any issues with red marks or wing drooping.

Our first test run was during the day. Typically Josh spends 2-3 hours in his daytime diapers. (That is if he keeps them on at all :-)   ) So I put it on Josh and he went back to getting into everything! I love that it moved with him making it easy for him to play and be a boy. When I changed him, his skin felt dry which is a bonus for us! No leaks either.

Our next test was during Josh’s nap. He wears nap time diapers for 3-4 hours and he sleeps on his belly. Once again, we got a wonderful fit and the diaper moved great with him. When he woke up, his clothes were dry and his skin felt dry! Another win!!

Our final test is overnight. Josh typically spends 10-12 hours in his night diapers and he is a SUPER heavy wetter at night. We really struggle to find night time options for him that work. Unfortunately for us, we did experience leaks at night when we used these. However, if your little one isn’t a heavy wetter than you might be just fine. So far the only thing to work on Josh overnight is a hybrid fitted with a wool cover. When we had leaks with these, it didn’t surprise us. Josh just needs something extra.

What I like:

  • Adorable prints
  • Great fit
  • Snap
  • The ability to adjust the soaker as needed
  • Trim
  • Affordable

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The inner showed wear quicker than other diapers. Although, this is normal for fleece.
  • Didn’t work overnight
  • Not enough waist snaps (I really wish there was a few more snaps to help ensure a better fit around the waist.)

Bottom Line: This isn’t the best diaper to use overnight for us but it makes a wonderful day time diaper! The prints are adorable and it would look great partnered with a matching shirt during the summer. They are trim and fit nicely under jeans. The price is completely affordable!!! Great for any budget.
